About the Author
Kermit Jones, Jr. came across the idea of a prepper book for kids when trying to decide how to explain the topic to his four young daughters. Having attended high school in a very rural part of Virginia, he later went on to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. After several years as a Surface Warfare Officer, he resigned his commission and entered the Chaplain Corps where he continues to serve his country as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
A Navy Reservist, he was recalled to Active Duty for two separate tours, resulting in a pause in his Prepper Pete adventures. He’s back now, with a new drive to help better prepare kids by equipping them with critical thinking, preparedness skills, and a safety mindset!
In addition to writing children’s books, he instructs on topics of leadership, personal and emergency preparedness, self-reliance, and safety, and he has been a guest on several radio and talk show broadcasts. His gun safety book, “Prepper Pete’s Gun of a Son,” has taken the number one spot on Kindle for the “Children’s non-fiction” category.
Between kids and his (multiple) careers, he has learned that it is important to “be prepared!”
About the Illustrator(s)
Deciri Abecia Braña, the current illustrator beginning with book 5, is based in the Philippines. Raised on the Island Born of Fire, Camiguin Island, she grew up grounded in nature but most times just gets lost in her imagination. For hours on end, she draws, creating stories and characters bouncing around in her head. For 4 years, she has been working professionally as a digital and traditional artist, as well as being an animator on small projects. The best part of her work is being able to collaborate with other creatives who are just as passionate with the process of creating art. A graduate of Psychology, loves playing the ukulele, and dreams of seeing a timberdoodle in real life someday.
Christy A. Brill, the illustrator for books 1 through 4, is a native of Wilmington, NC. Proudly married to a United States Marine, and the mother of three young children, she understands the importance of being prepared.
Note: Our recent shift to a digital illustration and workflow simply allows us flexibility moving into the future, but no one will ever be able to duplicate the clay model and initial creativity and energy that Christy brought to the Prepper Pete and Friends series more than a decade ago! I (Kermit) want to personally thank her for her belief and work even in the early concept stages of this crazy adventure.
