Note for Grown-ups:
Survivalist Sam Saves the Day is a great way to teach children the importance of staying calm and resourceful in unexpected situations. Based on a true story by A. American, this book highlights how quick thinking and basic skills like using a ham radio can turn a potentially stressful situation into a successful outcome.
Use this story as a conversation starter with your kids about the value of preparedness, problem-solving, and how sometimes the simplest tools can make the biggest difference. By learning how to use ham radio, children can gain valuable skills in communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. It’s not just about the gadgets—it’s about preparing them to be confident, resourceful, and ready to help when it matters most.
And by the way – there is no age limit for amateur radio in the U.S. – even a five-year-old can do it! (and has!)
